THE CYTOTHERA PLUS PROCESS

How is the Umbilical Cord collected?
Umbilical Cord collection
After delivery and separation of mother and baby, umbilical cord blood is collected. After collecting the blood, the umbilical cord is separated from the placenta and placed in the recipient supplied for this purpose. This recipient is designed to maintain the cord cells in perfect conditions until they reach the laboratory where they are processed.
Sample identification, packing and transport
The Kit and recipient are identified with unique identification codes. The medical team assisting the delivery needs only to place the collecting recipient in the Cytothera Cord Kit. Request for Kit pick-up should be performed only after the complete address for pick-up is known (Name of the Hospital/Clinic, floor, number of the room and bed). Time between birth and pick-up should be the least possible, however it should be recalled that a correct Kit packaging maintains cells viable as long as the Kit is maintained at room temperature, with no major temperature fluctuations.
Quantity of umbilical cord that should be collected
As much cord tissue as possible should be collected - ideally over 20cm. However, there is no minimum length required, since cells can be multiplied. Analysis of the conditions in which the cord arrives to Cytothera installations is always performed, allowing for the determination of the unit’s viability.
How the transport is performed
The sample is picked-up on the booked or following day, depending on the timing of the request. The Kit is delivered to Cytothera installations in a maximum of 24 hours.
Transport is performed by a specialized company with full knowledge of the essential proceedings regarding biological products.
